It's very detailed, much much much more detailed than SEO Step-by-Step by Caimin Jones. I haven't put the information learned in SEO for Dummies into practice, but the author does admit outright that the reader won't be able to maximize SEO simply by reading the book. The author writes that he realizes his audience is most small business owners and that this book should help give them a clue about the SEO-maximization company they're hiring. That was kind of disappointing, in spite of the intense detail given in this book.

As a former webmaster and web site developer, this gives the average web designer / owner great advice on how to get maximum exposure, without having to pay the often outrageous and unnecessary SEO fees that some " bandit " companies are charging.Worth every penny, if you are designing, or own a website !

This book is a FANTASTIC overview, definitely deep/detailed enough to get a GREAT start with SEO.It is not for Dummies for sure - much more than a simple overview. Well-organized.I HIGHLY recommend this book.

Until I purchased you book I really had no idea what SEO was all about. I may never be a whiz-kid ,but I am not as big a Dummy as was before. Thanks.

This book is awesome. I'm new to this type of stuff and everything was explained in terms that anyone could understand. I'm sure that once I implement a few of the tactics that I will be in better shape than I am now.

Exactly what I needed.

This book was just the ticket to get me started. If you need a place to start the journey of how, what and why this is the book.

Practical, up to date and easy to read and understand. Not beyond the comprehension of this armature web page designer. Lots of good tips.

"If I were forced to limit my southwestern library to one book, this would be it. In just under 600 pages, handsomely illustrated with color and black-and-white photographs, and prcise pen-and-ink drawings, 35 experts share their considerable knowledge of man and nature in the Sonoran Desert."  (Southwest Books of the Year 2000-01-01)"An indispensable guide for any desert visitor. . . . It offers a complete look at Sonoran Desert ecology, with details on individual species and essays that bring the desert alive." (Sunset Magazine 2001-01-01)"The award-winning text includes a calendar of natural events highlighting animal migrations, full moons, and the Sonoran Desert's awesome spring flower show."  (Outside Magazine 2002-01-01)"A Natural History of the Sonoran Desert is a monumental work, accessible to amateurs and professionals alike; it is a must for anyone planning to visit the deserts of southwestern United States." (Environmental Practice 2001-09-01)". . . immaculately produced. . . . Put together by the museum's exceptional academic and curatorial staff, Natural History is a storybook, a field guide, a lay geology, paleontology, and human ecology textbook, and a handy encyclopedia - and it reads as enjoyable as fiction."  (The Americus Journal 2002-09-01)"If I am exiled to a desert isle, I now have that proverbial one book to take along: A Natural History of the Sonoran Desert. . . . It's all here. It's like sitting on the patio with the best experts and having a private tutorial." (The Journal of Arizona History 2001-09-01)"Never before has a book appeared that so deserved a place on the bookshelf of every desert aficionado. . . . I can’t say too many good things about this excellent, and comprehensive field guide to an entire region. If you are interested in the American Southwest, and the ecology of deserts generally, this book is exactly what you are looking for. If you have an interest in the Sonoran Desert specifically, this book is a must have for your reference library. It is well written, informative and useful to just about everyone. It covers all the areas of natural history you would expect, but also covers geology, and cultural history of the region as well. The second edition also has the advantage of being quite packable, whereas the original was a very blocky book, more suited to the bookcase than the field, the slimmer profile of the second edition makes easy to put in a backpack to carry with you on day hikes through the desert or to the coffee shop to read about the desert if you are, like me, stuck far away from the wonderful Sonoran Desert.

This book is very reminiscent of Carstensen and Armstrong's "Natural History of Southeast Alaska," with lots of text, black-and-white illustrations of common or representative species, and interesting "sidebars."However, unlike the SEAK book, instead of a collaboration between 2 eminent biologists and their circle of friends, this one has something like 40 authors. It is immediately obvious that the authors are talking about a place they love and know well, and I found it pleasant to read about everything from the formation of desert pavement to saguaro population dynamics (don't overlook that part - it gave me a new perspective on population age structures, and even though I am a casual naturalist, I find that relevant even at home in Alaska, with low-success species like yellow cedar). The only part that was a little bit of a let-down was the chapter on birds, even though it is written by Ken Kaufman, who is something of a publishing phenomenon in the ornithology world. Honestly, text description of birds and traditional species accounts are not an effective use of space. The more in-depth sidebars, however, were nice even in that chapter, and the line drawings good.I bought the book for a bike trip from San Diego to Phoenix, and now I want to go to Tucson again, just to visit the Arizona-Sonora desert museum. Their mission is great. They did a good job, and so did the University of California Press (If you are reading this, UC Press, thanks also for the last edition of the Light and Smith Manual).

This is the second edition of a great reference book made even better. It is not a field guide or a textbook as such, but for reference it is great, and includes many illustrations and line drawings that help to make the Sonoran Desert experience more enjoyable. it is too big to be carried around, however, but that does not detract from its usefulness

This is a great book about the most wonderful piece of nature in the country (in my humble opinion). I learned a lot about the spectacular place I live.

Definitely for those with somewhat of a background in and desire for detailed learning about the S.D. ecosystem. I don't have all the background necessary, but it is written so that, with applied effort, anyone can understand the material.

One of the most interesting of the Natural History publications of the UC Press. A very informative and easily read book on the plants and processes of the Sonoran Desert.

Wow!It will knock your socks off!

It contains everything you need to know about the Fauna and Flora of the Sonoran Desert. It is by far My most favorite ecosystem.

#9,158,256 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

In this book David Macaulay explains how Egyptian pyramids were constructed and although he has some fine pen and ink illustrations, they aren't as detailed or comprehensive as his other fine books like Mill or Castle.First, the story seems just a little disjointed and jumps from one section to the next without much of a bridging narrative. Second, I'm not sure that some of the explanations are really geared for grade school students (although I'm sure that many will instantly grasp what Macaulay is explaining). For instance, though the explanation how the surveyors determined true north is perfectly logical and clear, it does require a passing acquaintance with the sidereal movement of stars in the sky. There are a number of interesting facts in the book - how a newly constructed chamber would be filled with rubble and sand so workers and artist could finish the roof and ceiling and tops of columns (I wonder why they didn't bother with scaffolding).I think what actually is missing is a definite story with characters that link the sections together. In Mill, it was the story of the Plimptons and the planning and construction of a water powered mill; in Castle, it was the story of Lord Kevin LeStrange and the planning and construction of a castle in Aberwyvern, Wales and the growth of a town around it.Overall, this is not one of David Macaulay's best books but it does give pretty decent idea of how the great pyramids were constructed.

`Pyramid` (1975) is Macaulay's third book. It shows the building of a hypothetical pyramid similar in size to Giza. Unfortunately Macaulay took on a difficult subject. There is still controversy about how exactly the pyramids were built. The 4-ramp model shown in the book is just one of many ideas, and not even proven to work. The latest theory is described in Khufu: The Secrets Behind the Building of the Great Pyramid, involving a series of internal and external ramps (see a BBC article about it in the note below). Given this, it's hard to know what else in the book is accurate, or conjecture. Macaulay is at his best when he demystifies the world around us, but in this case the pyramids really are a mystery, and so it leaves the impression of inaccuracy. However we can probably assume some of it is right (the tools for example). Like all Maccaulay books, it's an enjoyable and impressive journey through history. Just don't rely on it as a blueprint for building your own pyramid!

My 5 year old really enjoyed this. Some of it is still over his head, and took my some time to figure out, but he still really enjoyed. I am a long time David Macaulay fan, so it was gratifying to see my son enjoy it as well.

I am a longtime fan of Davin Macaulay and own most of his books. They are richly illustrated and present complex ideas in a way that is easily understood by adults and children alike. So far, my grandchildren first come across Macaulay's books in my home. Pretty soon they are asking for their own copies which I happily give them.

Not what I expected, for sure. Written for junior high age readers, apparently. Illustrations were difficult to read even when opened up on my tablet. Just when I thought I had finished chapter One, I discovered I had finished the entire book! I saw other titles by David Macaulay, but I'm kind of gun shy now! It's not a bad book, just less than what I had hoped for.

Macaulay is the master of simplifying complex topics. He's easy to follow, extremely well illustrated, and gripping -- which is a lot to be said for an historic architecture series! If you like to know how things work, buy any of his books.

Classic book that I love. Scientific understanding of artful things, with lots of detail. This and Castle are my favorite from the series.

Great starter for young people interested in the monutmental projects of the ancient world.
