If you need a high-level overview on what blockchain is and how it came to be, this is a decent book. Everything it covers is listed in its lengthy title, however the bulk of text relates to blockchain, Bitcoin and Ethereum. Other topics are barely touched, but I guess it is ok since the book is meant for beginners.Alan T. Norman’s main belief is that blockchain-related technologies will reintroduce trust into society, which is currently in a crisis. Institutions are not perceived as trustworthy, they are slow to respond, incur fees and are “a drag to economy”. Author posits, that blockchain’s algorithmic consensus may translate into frictionless agreements throughout society, should such technology be chosen to underpin payments, contracts, insurances etc. Personally I appreciate that the author is making assumptions, not axioms. Blockchain “has the potential”, but clearly is not a silver-bullet.The book is not technical, with an exception of a single chapter on hashing, offering a glimpse at some of mathematical formulas on which blockchain implementations depend. I find it a nice addition to the otherwise very accessible text. What bothers me, though, is that sometimes the author is oversimplifying things, for example conflating “hashing” with “encrypting”.To summarize - if you don’t know much about blockchain, you can safely read this book as a primer. Otherwise, invest in more exhaustive titles.

A fantastic summary of blockchain. I read a lot of independently published books and found this one to be one of the best in terms of readability and flow. Alan gives you some technical depth but he doesn’t lose you in jargon or technical details.I read the book twice. And each time I picked up on new details. At just over 100 pages I was able to knock it put in a weekend.I was able to successfully use this book as a springboard to a more in depth study of blockchain. It gave me the foundation to comfortably dig in to the more technical aspect of this new technology.Thanks Alan. I enjoyed your work.

Norman's book provides a concise view of the history, current status and future potential of blockchain technology. Until recently I ignored this technology because I thought it was useful only for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. And I thought Bitcoin was the domain of financial speculators, tax dodgers, drug dealers and money laundrers. But these decentralized and encrypted ledgers may eventually revolutionize a wide range of applications and become as important as the Internet is today. In addition to banking, possible blockchain applications include product distribution, voting and "the Internet of things". This book provides a lot of bang for the buck (the Kindle version from Amazon cost me only 99 cents). I would have given it five stars if it had included a more understandable theoretical description of the technology. But Norman chose to describe only the mining procedure for Bitcoin (which was deliberately made tedious to limit the number of bitcoins in circulation).

I learned from 0 with this book. I randomly picked 4 blockchain book samples and I after I read the samples I like this one most. The book is focused in explain the blockchain concepts, why they are important, why they are growing in popularity. It also contains little deep technical knowledge although you can skip those chapters. I consider it a good introduction book because It accomplished its purpose, you need to understand the concepts in order to understand the difference between the technology implementation across the different blockchain platforms (bitcoin, etherum).I payed 1 dollar and I learned a lot.

I finished this book the same evening it arrived. The high-level overview was just what I was looking for. While a web search of the topic would have eventually yielded the same information, this book was better organized and more comprehensive. The print edition had some weird formatting errors and typos, but nothing so bad as to detract from its usefulness. I’m ready to dive into a more meaty book now, but I’m glad I got something that could teach me the basics quickly. I can speak with confidence about mining, hashing and proof of work/stake; I know some basic history of the technology; and I see the potential and challenges of blockchain as it applies to currencies and other applications. Not bad for a couple of hours of reading!

Very quick read, but gave me the level of detail that I was looking for. I work at a software company, in a non-technical capacity. The book gave me enough of a foundation so that I can better understand blockchain strategy discussions at work.

The description of how blockchain works was pretty good, but a lot of leaps are required to see how it will be used in practice. A lot like the early internet, it took a while before people could see why it was important and how it could be useful. Like the internet, each upside has many unintended, and often negative, consequences. I’ll keep reading. This seems like a topic that is worth understanding

Everyone has heard of blockchain but few people know what it is. When you read this book, you will know enough to have an idea of what blockchains are, what they can be used for, and what 'mining' is. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to know about the subject, as blockchains are going to be in just about everything in the very near future.

One thing that is bad about these is that they are not that durable, they bend quite easy as well as, show signs of use after one use. I have known Mr. Geller and parts of his family for over 15 years. This book can only begin to explain the genius involved in the designs I have seen. I have stayed in a home of Mr. Geller's design which was absolutely remarkable in its use of open space while still allowing for privacy in a home that at the time was shared by 7 people.I am thrilled that this book finally gives some long overdue credit to one of the pioneers of modern residential architecture.

I love this book. It's beautifully illustrated and well written. Certainly a must for anyone interested in modernist architecture second home design!

Am reading this book to try and see what I can add to my stress management toolbox, for working with young people. Recently I got my teaching license and am subbing for the remainder of this school year, so I'm working across age groups. A 6th grader at one school was recently crying at the end of class and told me she was having a panic attack; they'd had a gun scare at the school the previous week (I sent her to the guidance counselor, accompanied by a friend). That specifically is what motivated me to order this book.Am about halfway through the book, and so-so on it right now... I think it might be better for adults than adolescents and teenagers, unless the kid reading it likes to read. I think it may be more text than many kids would want to read. In terms of explanation of phenomena and strategies, I think it is very good (Again -- I still have about half the book to read).In terms of the metaphor of the tiger, I can see how this might work, but for most students in American schools, I'm not sure if this is too abstract somehow -- And also, tigers are often used as mascots and in positive, non-threatening ways in our culture. My license is in ESL and last week I was in a classroom with some students from African countries. I could see how students from Africa or India might have more first-hand experience with the idea of a tiger being truly threatening. For myself, a tiger does not bring up negative, scary connotations, so in that regard, the title doesn't "work" for me 100%.It's a useful book though. I'd like to find more materials that can help in working with students to lower stress and anxiety and to help them develop strategies they can use both in and outside of school.

The presentation provides practicalcoping strategies to identify stress and deal with itin a timely and constructive manner. This book fills an important gap in large scale data science.Spark has emerged as the big data platform of choice for data scientists both from the ease of use as well as the performance / optimization point of view. In a few lines of Scala code, Spark allows you to write iterative algorithms that scale out very well. For a data scientist who wants to explore large scale data sets, Spark is a great starting point (this is incredible progress in the Spark community given the project is just about 4 years old). However, Spark itself is moving fast and maturing with time, and Spark and Scala as well as distributed algorithms are typically not in the arsenal of many data scientists today.What this book does is teach you how to think about data science problems at scale, in the context of Spark. As a bonus, they also point you to well engineered data sets that you can use to follow along the discussion and learn by trying out the examples yourself.By embracing the feature engineering steps and data cleaning/ error handling and tuning /feedback steps, the authors manage to show how real world data science works and how you can do full stack data science using Spark and gain immensely from the interactive nature of the Spark REPL.Overall, I highly recommend this book, and though it is the first book on Data Science using Spark, it sets a high standard for subsequent efforts.

Sure, there are others, maybe more popular books from O'Reilly considering these topics, but the authors of those are using R and Python and the books are not focused on the performance and scalability. Throughout the book you can find some really worthy tips about Spark or data analysis - like using other serializer than the Java's default (they recommend kryo), overview of data cleansing and whole machine learning pipeline. To sum up, I recommend this book to every data scientist - because it demonstrates advanced topics like workload distribution and scaling on an enjoyable examples.

It is a so, so book. Examples are okay and the codes provided are "elegant" - certainly the result of spending hours and hours optimizing them; but that is not what a typical Spark users will face in life. The explanations are hurried and they make it very hard for the reader to connect the dots. It seems that the book's intent was right, but the application was woefully inadequate. If you do all the work in the book, you will be very competent at reading csv files - but is about all. The authors have a habit of providing esoteric "helper" functions to clean up the files but you don't really understand what is happening because either the explanations are thin or there is none to be found. A big part of data science is preparing the data - anyone can turn the crank on clean data but how do you go from the start to finish. This was their opportunity and they left a big gap. Spark's ML examples are nicer than what is presented in this book; paying for a book to get minimal information is a bit odd. I was really looking forward to going through this book and I am glad I did; it makes me appreciate authors who spend time writing good books.

Tara always writes a good book. I love the storyline. My problem is with her editing. It’s atrocious. There were so many misspelled words and grammatical errors it was hard to stay wrapped up in the story. I don’t know what is going on with her editor, but they should be lashed by Nathaniel West. It’s so odd to me that I’ve never had this problem with the paperbacks, only the ebooks. Anyway, if you can get through the grammatical errors, it’s a good book. If you like Josh & Hazel’s Guide..., you’ll like this book.

I skipped so many pages in this. It was boring, had little to no humor, and sex scenes that could have come from a Twilight book.

An entertaining, interesting story.

This was such a cute read! I read The Date Dare last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I was really excited to see Tate’s story. He was so closed off and it was nice to see him open up. He is such a good guy and he really deserved to truly find happiness. And Carsen! I adored her. She was such a fun character and so strong. And together they had fantastic chemistry. I loved that Tate broke his rules for Carsen and I loved that Carsen got to see what she really wanted. You just root for these two right from the start. Even though their lives seem to be going in opposite directions, they just work. It was also great getting to see Elliot and Darcy again and see that they are so happy together. What I also really loved about this book was that it was really light on the angst. Tate and Carsen have some things to work out but it was never over the top and was the perfect book to get lost in for a few hours and read cover to cover. Overall, The Date Deal is a really quick and sweet read that’s just easy to devour.

Tate Maddox knows his time with Carsen is limited but an surprise phone-call finds their time together shorter than expected.The relationship between Carsen and Tate is one of immediate attraction ; a friend’s younger sister situation that finds Tate falling for a woman in light of the rules he has set for himself. A bit of a ‘martyr’, Tate is willing to sacrifice his happiness for that of everyone else including our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are passionate but limited.The secondary and supporting characters included Elliott and Darcy Taber (The Date Dare #1), as well as Tate’s assistant Susan, her daughter Jane, and Jane’s daughter Haley.THE DATE DEAL is a quick read; a sweet story of friendship, sacrifice, and falling in love. The premise is engaging; the romance is energetic; the characters are lively and animated but I struggle with Tate’s need to sacrifice for the sake of everyone else, sacrifice that continues from book one.

At first I was a little apprehensive when I found out Tate Maddox was about to get his own story.. he wasn’t exactly my favourite character in the last book, and rightfully so.If you are going to read this, I recommend reading The Date Dare first to get a better feel of the main characters and their story before this book.To my surprise, I felt myself warming up towards Tate, he was different when it came to Carsen, she brought out a side of him that I actually fell in love with. It goes to show just how much the right girl can change a man. Carsen did just that.These two are a little older and more experienced in life and all the struggles it comes with, in this book. It was somewhat of a slow burn love, yet a shortish book, it held my attention from start to finished and I was intrigued to see where this relationship was headed, and of course Tara did not disappoint. She never does.Although this isn’t exactly my go-to read, and it’s not exactly the romance Tara usually writes, I did enjoy it! It still held a certain amount of heat, and a few twists and turns inserted into the plot, but all in all it’s a fairly lighthearted kind of read. it’s certainly a lovely change and both book 1 and 2 have made me look at this sub genre a little differently.It’s a 5 star rating from me.

Flawless from start to finish, with great dialog, and the perfect amount of sweet and tender moments. Tara Sue Me knows how to bring you romance that will melt your heart and set butterflies soaring. This was blissful.Tate and Carsen are a breath of fresh air. Their distinct personalities, and their attraction will win you over immediately. We definitely see a different side of Tate, then when we met him in “The Date Dare”. But after losing Darcy, his mind set has changed, no more strict rules that he has lived by for years. Carsen captures Tate’s attention immediately and when their paths cross again, he is a goner. But Carsen has big hopes and dreams, will she give it all up for Tate?This was such a treat. A romantic treat for the heart! I’m absolutely smitten with every little detail that makes up this story! I loved it!I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
