I was charmed by this book! I think of it as a travel guide, because it is arranged with each county getting its own chapter. But instead of brief descriptions with opening times and directions, it is made up of stories. The stories vary in length and are very readable. The biggest reason to NOT think of this as a travel guide is that it is a lot of fun to read as a history book, even if you’re not going to travel to Wales.There’s a lot more to Wales than visiting the train station with the longest place name in Europe. How about the island where the Romans destroyed the last of the Druids? Or Nanteos, supposed home of the Holy Grail.I learned interesting historical tidbits. Such as, cremation was not legal in Great Britain until 1884, after a Welsh man in Glamorgan County was tried and acquitted for cremating his young son. And there’s the fascinating story of how an illegitimate Welsh Prince may have “discovered” America 200 years before Columbus.Oh, to visit Clyro Court, Radnorshire, where the visiting Arthur Conan Doyle heard about their Baskerville ancestor and his Black Dog of Hergest.The pen & ink drawings, by Mai Osawa, accompanying the text are lovely. There’s at least 2 pictures in each 2-page spread. In the front of the book is a simple map showing the locations of Wales’ 13 counties.This is the second book I’ve read in Winn’s “I Never Knew…” series. The first was on Ireland. There seemed to be more rogues in the Irish stories, but that may not be surprising! I Never Knew That About IrelandHappy Reader

I enjoyed this book about Wales, its counties, towns and lore...I would have liked some maps throughout the chapters to better follow the county locations but all in all a very enjoyable read...I bought his other books on England, Scotland and Ireland

This was so much fun to read and I have been recommending it highly to my London traveler friends. I plan to create maps and do walks, and the only flaw in this book is the lack of maps. Anyone who buys Rick Steves (and I do, a lot) knows that maps and directions can be truly poor things, but we could have used even some written ones. I read it with a copy of my London map book firmly in hand.It is a sheer delight.

I really like the audio book but since I've only been there once it was too detailed. You need to know a lot more than I do about London layout and history. It would have been better in a book format with a lot of maps.

What can I say. I have Welsh heritage and found this book "chock-a-block" full of facts, some of which are a real hoot.

In was good to learn about the land of my grandfather. It would be interesting even if I were not part Welsh.

This notebooks is gorgeous and just what I've been looking for for my journal... Although I don't do bullet journalling, I do use markers to sketch in it, and the paper is nice and thick so they don't bleed through. The cover is very durable and has a soft finish (not flocked but soft like matte, not glossy) so it feels nice in your hand AND doesn't slip if you happen to be carrying a pile of books and notebooks as I often am. I also am very happy to find a high quality notebook WITHOUT a spiral binding... I'm murder on those and they end up all mashed so the pages don't turn. With this type of binding, it's not an issue and the pages are very firmly attached. I love love love this notebook and will be purchasing more for future journals!

I’m old. I love technology but if I need to learn something important, I take notes with a pen and paper. This is nice quality paper - lines are crisp.There’s no left margin margin if that’s important to you.

My son uses spiral notebooks at school, but his pages kept tearing out, so we were thrilled when we found this notebook that did not have perforations on the pages and was college ruled. It has made his notebook much easier to keep together.

This notebook is exactly what I was looking for. It has a nice soft cover and bendable. The pages won't rip or tear out. Good book for the price.

About the Author

Master Sergeant Cedric King (Ret.) entered the United States Army in 1995. During a career that took him from an infantry private to a position of leadership in the elite Rangers, King graduated from a number of distinguished Army schools. These included the United States Army Jumpmaster School, United States Army Pathfinder School, Air Assault School, the United States Army Ranger School, and others. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal, and is a four-time Best Ranger Competition participant. On July 25, 2012, during his second tour in Afghanistan, King was severely injured by an improvised explosive device. The blast caused major internal injuries, permanent loss to part of his right arm and hand, and the amputation of both legs. He applied the same determined, can-do mindset to his recovery that he had relied on to succeed as an elite Army Ranger. With the love and support of his wife Khieda and daughters Amari and Khayma, he began rebuilding his life. Just 21 months after losing both legs, King completed the Boston Marathon, running on prosthetic blades. He has gone on to compete in a number of physically daunting events, including a 70.3-mile half Ironman Triathlon, the 2014 New York City Marathon, and the 48.6-mile Disney Marathon series. Since its a YA book, it might appeal to a younger audience than me, but this book was a lot more about telling than sucking you in to any story. The first half of the book is just describing the relationship jessa has with her quadruplet friends (and one of them is obviously the love interest) and telling the reader about the supernatural work. But after all that, I know nothing about the supernatural world except for the stuff I've seen before and all I know about the quadruplets is that they are all very similar and love jessa. There was also a lot of protagonist centered morality. One scene that comes to mind is where jessa and a boy were sparring in a defense class, the boy punches her in the face, and the teacher says she can go home, but then all her friends are allowed to beat up the boy and hang him up by his feet and threaten him and nobody says anything. And the new people who come in as characters have very little personality and a very jarring transition. Jessa hates her mom in the beginning, oh wait scratch that she loves her. Her sister is a jarring surprise that she's almost angry about, but then they're suddenly best friends despite barely interacting. Louis the wizard might be a lot interest might be 100 year old mentor, who knows? The witch we saw in chapter whatever? Oh yeah she's joining the group on the very last page.But I can't be too negative. The story did have some potential. I like the idea of jessa' s abilities and how they might enact some evil prophecy or something. I really like the ideas presented, but they needed a lot more development and alot more immersion for the reader. I hate leaving negative reviews but this is what I got

I just finished reading this book for the third time in four months, and I already want to start at the beginning and read it again. It's that good! For reference, I'm in my mid-twenties, and I read 2-3 books a week - mostly romance of various types (new adult, paranormal, erotic). This book held my interest, and it's one of the very few that I've read more than once. I highly recommend it!First off, let's start with the characters. Jessa is a strong female lead. Although her best friends are protective males, I never got the impression that she was sitting around waiting for them to save her - she knows how to defend herself, verbally and physically. Also, she had strong opinions and stood behind them, but it never became annoying. I thought the author did an excellent job in creating the characters. Everyone from the main characters to the supporting characters were well thought out and distinctive. It didn't feel like one of those stories where the author put all their energy into two or three characters and everyone else is just there. By the same token, we're introduced to quite a few characters, but I never felt confused or overwhelmed.Then we get to the story. It kept me interested the whole time, and it was definitely different than anything I've read before. Also, even though this book is part of a series, the author gave us a full-length novel, unlike some of the series I've read lately that felt like the length of a sitcom episode. On the other hand, I didn't feel like the story got bogged down with superfluous events. Everything that happened felt like it had a purpose. There is a cliffhanger ending, but it feels like a natural break (more like "I wonder what adventures await them", rather than "I'm turning the next page because the end of this scene has to be here somewhere").In terms of romance, there isn't very much in this first installment. You definitely see the stage being set for relationships between several pairs, but there is a slow build. To be honest, even though there wasn't any kissing or sex or even any dating relationships, the quiet, firm support and protection Braxton shows for Jessa melted my heart. I feel like the friendship that already exists between the two is such a firm foundation for an amazing relationship that I can't wait to see them progress, but I do hope we see some major strides in the romance department in the next book because I feel like we will lose forward momentum without it.In short, if the summary interested you enough to check the reviews, I'd say read it! I can almost guarantee you won't regret it!

Her best friends are the Compass brothers, a set of quadruplets (only 1 other set is known to exist) and each one is a different type of supe; vampire, fey, wizard and dragon shifter. They took a vow long ago to never share a kiss or anything sexual, valuing their friendship more than risking having a relationship go sour. The Quads are very powerful, and protective of Jessa, and also expected to take council positions in three years.Her world is turned upside down when her mother, who she doesn’t remember, comes back to town and she finds she has a sister. The reason her mother left to begin with and what it all means shakes up much of what she’d always believed. And this seems to be the trigger for other events that take place.I love the relationship Jessa has with all of the Quads, although being picked up all of the time is kind of weird. She doesn’t believe she has a mate—you don’t know until you at least kiss or have sex—but you get the idea that one of the Quads, Braxton, would be hers. And being in a position of power also comes with those who are jealous or want to take you out.We get action, emotions, humor and some intrigue. I can’t wait to find out what happens next as they try to prevent a war.

Please see my attached pics. I got concerned when I saw the news about so many fakes & recalls, so I did some reading....According to the American Astronomical Society:" You shouldn't be able to see anything through a safe solar filter except the Sun itself or something comparably bright, such as the Sun reflected in a mirror, a sunglint off shiny metal, the hot filament of an unfrosted incandescent light bulb, a bright halogen light bulb, a bright-white LED flashlight (including the one on your smartphone), or an arc-welder's torch. All such sources should appear quite dim through a solar viewer." and "Safe solar filters produce a view of the Sun that is comfortably bright (like the full Moon), in focus, and surrounded by dark sky."So I did my own tests. As you can see from my photos this very bright multi-LED work light is basically blocked out entirely by these glasses. If I shield off all the surrounding lights I can just BARELY make out the individual LEDs (see photo). This sounds exactly what the AAS described as 'such sources being quite dim'I also tested them in real life. It was quite comfortable viewing the sun through them, the sun was a very comfortable level of brightness, and sharp contrast to the dark sky. I carefully took a photo which I've included here.Some other interesting info directly from NASA about viewing duration and expiration:"Note: If your eclipse glasses or viewers are compliant with the ISO 12312-2 safety standard, you may look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun through them for as long as you wish. Furthermore, if the filters aren't scratched, punctured, or torn, you may reuse them indefinitely. Some glasses/viewers are printed with warnings stating that you shouldn't look through them for more than 3 minutes at a time and that you should discard them if they are more than 3 years old. Such warnings are outdated and do not apply to eclipse viewers compliant with the ISO 12312-2 standard adopted in 2015. "Hope this helps. Having done these 'checks' i feel comfortable with my family using these glasses.

I bought these for my son for the full solar eclipse on the 21st. I bought these with another type/brand and these are awesome, when you put them on everything looks completely black but when you look at the sun you can see it as an orange circular glow but nothing else! With the other brand/type I bought I could barely see anything I had to intensely focus just to see a not as bright orange sun, at times I couldn't even see that!These fit my 4 year old perfectly as well as adults! I highly recommend these for anyone who's looking for a great quality pair of solar glasses for the eclipse!!!!

Received these in the mail today. The postal carrier folded the package, was concerned this damaged the glasses, amazingly no fold marks. There should have been a do not fold message on the packaging, had this been there these would been delivered to a package size mailbox and would not have been folded.Pulled the glasses out of the package and observed the following:- unlike the US made glasses these do not have a silver coat on the outside of the lens- the lenses are a it rippled- note the lenses are secure in their spaces, no sign of tearing, holes in lenses or coming loose from the frame- these fit my kiddos small faces much better than the adult size- the fine print matches what is on the Lunt site, therefore will assume they are not fake, plus this brand is on the AAS reputable vendor listWe did try them both inside looking at a cell phone flashlight (all you see is the small dot of the light), regular clear light bulbs (you cam see the filament) and outside looking directly at the sun (everything is totally dark except the the sun)True test will be the eclipse. Giving 3 star due to package being folded and rippled lenses.

Product is as pictured, and they work perfectly! I took away a star because they say it's for 7-12yr olds but they were huge on my 6yr old and fit me pretty well. Also they are just cardboard glasses so they were damaged during delivery.

These things are propey rated for looking at the sun and work as advertised.You cannot see anything through them unless you are looking at the sun. It has some fantastic examples illustrating how people can be harmed when given untested treatments that apparently made good sense. It shows how scientific evidence has helped to identify what works and what does not, and how to use this information to look after yourself. It is an easy enjoyable read.

I was disappointed with this book. I was looking for a book that would tell me how to evaluate my own treatments by myself.
