This publisher took the Zondervan Beginners bible and copied it word for word and then took eht same images as well. The only difference is that instead of all the figures being outlined in a darker highlight (as in Zondervan), the pictures are outlined in a light color. The Zondervan bible has sharper and more professional looking images. Otherwise, it is good. I wanted the Zondervan Bible to match the english version I have and thought this was it...I should have payed better attention to the details.

I am not such a fan of Naguib Mahfouz's stories. I have read some of his books and I liked them, but I am not crazy about him. However, this book offers his fans a chance to look through pictures at the most usual places described in his novels and this makes the book interesting and worth looking at. But it is not a photo-guide book of pictures as I have imagined it was before buying it. On the whole, if you have read many novels of this writer and are familiar with the Cairo shown in them and want a glimpse at real buildings and streets, I recommend this book.

Lots of pics, you do have to know about Mahfouz to follow it

I found this to be a nice collection of photographs detailing the Old Cairo featured in Naguib Mahfouz's stories, mostly the Palace Walk trilogy. It would be handy to have it as a companion while reading the novels to familiarize you with setting. For those readers with some familiarity with Cairo, this collection leaves us wanting. For example many photographs are only loosely related to sites in the novels. I would have preferred a more closer connection. A map would have also been valuable. The introductions by al-Ghitany were interesting but brief and rather superficial. It's a good book to borrow from the library but I wouldn't pay to own it.

Loved this walk down memory lane from when I was a punk skater badass

Quite simply, this is a book that MUST be seen. The artwork, photographs and story are just perfect. Greatin authoring by Sean Cliver who gives a terribly detailed, painful, humorous and honest look at the behind-the-scenes of the skateboard industry. As a kid growing up and skating in the 80's (I started skating in 1984 when I was 9, this book took me down memory lane and, I must say, enjoyed every step. This book is a no-lose buy and I strongly encourage you purchase.

This is hitting all me nostalgia buttons, the images are excellent and large enough to appreciate the graphics. Lots of fun little stories and insights throughout, really brings you back and even deeper into the culture than you were already!

Brings back great memories.....I miss those days so much.

I love this book. If you get it, you'll get it. Great photos, art and text. Sub culture history, cool, and nerdy. I'd recommend this to anybody who likes skateboards, art, or hoarding stuff.

Blue's first book, "Consider the Birds" surprised me because I couldn't believe how many birds were mentioned in the Bible . . . and how the more I understood a bird, the more I understood God. In "Consider the Women," I wasn't surprised to read about Hagar, Esther, and Mary, I mean I knew they were in the Bible :). But because they each have an aspect that is hard to explain (mother of Islam, sexual prowess, and mother of God), as Protestants, we tend to mention them in passing. This book creates space for us to truly consider them and their God.

Consider the women. Hagar, the mother of Islam, was the first to name God and challenged God to help her child live. Esther, the mother of Judaism, kicked ass and saved her people in responding to men behaving badly. And Mother Mary gave birth to Jesus and breastfed him, then mourned his death. These are relatable, human experiences that stir the soul. I struggle with traditional interpretations of the Bible. The Rev Deb helps me climb over these barriers to embrace my faith through stories shared across religions.

Debbie Blue has a way of looking scripture in new and thought-provoking ways. In "Consider the Women" she takes an in-depth look at three women of the Bible, showing us how their stories can cross boundaries and build bridges--how the three Abrahamic faiths can connect instead of clash. Through these stories, Debbie Blue gives us a new way to look at our relationship with God. An accomplished chef, restaurateur, teacher, and food writer, Jennifer Aranas was the chef-owner of the nationally acclaimed Rambutan Restaurant, Chicago's first fine dining Filipino eatery. Jennifer started Rambutan with her husband in 1998, after leaving behind her career as a real estate accounting manager to offer upscale Filipino dining to the Filipino community and to introduce the delicious flavors of her native cuisine to a new audience. After selling Rambutan in 2002, Jennifer spends her time as a food writer and a cooking instructor. No, I probably dont know squat, but I do know the food is fabulous. The book looks good, great pictures, the recipes look good, but I am used to them being called in their native language, and that is included too. The book has the look, size, and feel of a table top book, almost too pretty for a working book. I was disappointed in this quote "Like taco Tuesdays, and spaghetti on Wednesdays, you could have Adobo Thursdays." from East West Magazine. Not really with this book, Duck Adobo, a far cry from pork or chicken, wet or dry styles. Entirely simple 5 ingredients plus a meat. I have managed to make this dish a family favorite, everyone knows when I am cooking adobo, I never seem to have enough left over. I expected a bit more depth on a national dish. The second is Lumpia. She did give it space, the style is good. Considering the different combinations, I expected a little more information. I still think this book is a good deal anyway. Next, I will try the Whole cooked red snapper.

Hiqh quality recipe book. Very nice paper quality, photos, and layout. Doesn't have every mainstay filipino recipe but it does have a lot. Love the section on specific ingredients and how to find alternatives if you don't have the Asia-specific ingredients nearby.
