Jeff Galloway was an average teenage runner who kept learning and working harder, until he became an Olympian. This book has some very useful information, but there is quite a bit included that is just filler, such as a full 30 pages of testimonials. However, for somebody just getting into running, or perhaps a senior or just overweight, this book can be very helpful in providing a plan and the motivation to simply get started. It is also useful for those runners who want to go longer distances, but cannot run an entire 13.1 or 26.2 course. For these folks, the book is certainly recommended.

I used to run a lot, for about 30 years, racing 5 marathons, numerous 5-milers, 10k's, etc. I started having problems with my knees 7 or 8 years ago. I cut my running mileage down, but the knees progressively worsened. A year and a half ago I decided to stop running completely. I was still able to cycle and swim, but I really missed running. Two months ago, a friend told me about the "Run, Walk, Run Method" book by Jeff Galloway. I read the reviews and decided it was worth the small investment to at least try the method. Yes, the author repeats himself throughout the book, and maybe the whole thing could have been written in 50 pages or less. But by following the recommendations I am now running 10 miles a week, with no pain. If I never run any more than that, I would still be happy. I am at least enjoying running again. I am going to resist the urge to increase my miles beyond what I am doing, at least for a few more months. I am very happy with my purchase.Full disclaimer, I also switched to the minimalist, non-cushioned running shoe when I started running again 2 months ago, after reading about the merits of that type of shoe in the book "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall. That may also be contributing to my successful return to running, but without the "Run, Walk, Run Method" my minimalist shoes would be still sitting in the closet.

I'm training for a half marathon and utilizing the Run Walk Run method. You can get most(probably all) of the information you are looking for off his website. But I wanted to check out the book for any more insight since I'm actually using the program. I probably picked up a few tidbits from reading the book. As many people have said the book is very repetitive. If often repeats things 3,4, or 5 times. I can't tell if it is bad editing or just repeating to try to get his points across. Either way the method works. I'm using a Run 3 minutes walk 30 seconds method and I haven't been injured at all during my runs, I feel great the day after my long runs, and my timing is actually faster than running straight. The BIGGEST hurdle to this method is MENTAL. You have to adjust your mind to say, I'm not weaker just because I'm walking. I'm actually smarter and faster. But as a guy something is ingrained in me that says I'm a wimp because I'm walking. Just fight through these thoughts and try out the method. It works. I even got my wife to join me on the method. She's training with me. We usually run together. I would pass her while I was running and then she would catch up while I walked. Eventually I would pass her while running and then she wouldn't quite catch up. She found that really frustrating because I was resting all this time during the runs and she was running the whole time. We finished at the same time but she was much more tired. She's now run walk running with me. :)

Jeff Galloway's method is genius. I am a runner in my 50's with some arthritis starting in my knees and I thought I would plateau at a half marathon and gradually stop running. Now I am preparing for my first marathon and have never felt better.You MUST get over the idea that it is essential to run without stopping and TRY this method. It can help many people become runners even late in life.

Love, love, love this. I am 59 and training for​ my 1st half marathon. I just ran 5 miles with the 3 minute run, 30 second walk in 55 minutes. It worked amazingly well. I didn't lose any time at all with this method!

I had thought I was done with running; but when I signed up for local 5K races and 2 mile races, I needed to re-start my training. Jeff Galloway's method of run/walk/run intervals is as easy a training program as I know. I dont mind, unlike others, that he repeats wording in his books, I need several doses of reinforcement to get motivated, to get out there and DO IT. Jeff's gentle approach is good for overweight (SLOW) run/walkers like me. I do have an interval timer, which he advises to buy and use. I've tried other books, but Jeff's are the best. This book is a good place to start.
