This book fills an important gap in large scale data science.Spark has emerged as the big data platform of choice for data scientists both from the ease of use as well as the performance / optimization point of view. In a few lines of Scala code, Spark allows you to write iterative algorithms that scale out very well. For a data scientist who wants to explore large scale data sets, Spark is a great starting point (this is incredible progress in the Spark community given the project is just about 4 years old). However, Spark itself is moving fast and maturing with time, and Spark and Scala as well as distributed algorithms are typically not in the arsenal of many data scientists today.What this book does is teach you how to think about data science problems at scale, in the context of Spark. As a bonus, they also point you to well engineered data sets that you can use to follow along the discussion and learn by trying out the examples yourself.By embracing the feature engineering steps and data cleaning/ error handling and tuning /feedback steps, the authors manage to show how real world data science works and how you can do full stack data science using Spark and gain immensely from the interactive nature of the Spark REPL.Overall, I highly recommend this book, and though it is the first book on Data Science using Spark, it sets a high standard for subsequent efforts.

Sure, there are others, maybe more popular books from O'Reilly considering these topics, but the authors of those are using R and Python and the books are not focused on the performance and scalability. Throughout the book you can find some really worthy tips about Spark or data analysis - like using other serializer than the Java's default (they recommend kryo), overview of data cleansing and whole machine learning pipeline. To sum up, I recommend this book to every data scientist - because it demonstrates advanced topics like workload distribution and scaling on an enjoyable examples.

It is a so, so book. Examples are okay and the codes provided are "elegant" - certainly the result of spending hours and hours optimizing them; but that is not what a typical Spark users will face in life. The explanations are hurried and they make it very hard for the reader to connect the dots. It seems that the book's intent was right, but the application was woefully inadequate. If you do all the work in the book, you will be very competent at reading csv files - but is about all. The authors have a habit of providing esoteric "helper" functions to clean up the files but you don't really understand what is happening because either the explanations are thin or there is none to be found. A big part of data science is preparing the data - anyone can turn the crank on clean data but how do you go from the start to finish. This was their opportunity and they left a big gap. Spark's ML examples are nicer than what is presented in this book; paying for a book to get minimal information is a bit odd. I was really looking forward to going through this book and I am glad I did; it makes me appreciate authors who spend time writing good books.

After I've completed reading it, I will give to my high school freshman who is a math wiz to see if she can put it to good use. Tara always writes a good book. I love the storyline. My problem is with her editing. It’s atrocious. There were so many misspelled words and grammatical errors it was hard to stay wrapped up in the story. I don’t know what is going on with her editor, but they should be lashed by Nathaniel West. It’s so odd to me that I’ve never had this problem with the paperbacks, only the ebooks. Anyway, if you can get through the grammatical errors, it’s a good book. If you like Josh & Hazel’s Guide..., you’ll like this book.

I skipped so many pages in this. It was boring, had little to no humor, and sex scenes that could have come from a Twilight book.

An entertaining, interesting story.

This was such a cute read! I read The Date Dare last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I was really excited to see Tate’s story. He was so closed off and it was nice to see him open up. He is such a good guy and he really deserved to truly find happiness. And Carsen! I adored her. She was such a fun character and so strong. And together they had fantastic chemistry. I loved that Tate broke his rules for Carsen and I loved that Carsen got to see what she really wanted. You just root for these two right from the start. Even though their lives seem to be going in opposite directions, they just work. It was also great getting to see Elliot and Darcy again and see that they are so happy together. What I also really loved about this book was that it was really light on the angst. Tate and Carsen have some things to work out but it was never over the top and was the perfect book to get lost in for a few hours and read cover to cover. Overall, The Date Deal is a really quick and sweet read that’s just easy to devour.

The premise is engaging; the romance is energetic; the characters are lively and animated but I struggle with Tate’s need to sacrifice for the sake of everyone else, sacrifice that continues from book one.

At first I was a little apprehensive when I found out Tate Maddox was about to get his own story.. he wasn’t exactly my favourite character in the last book, and rightfully so.If you are going to read this, I recommend reading The Date Dare first to get a better feel of the main characters and their story before this book.To my surprise, I felt myself warming up towards Tate, he was different when it came to Carsen, she brought out a side of him that I actually fell in love with. It goes to show just how much the right girl can change a man. Carsen did just that.These two are a little older and more experienced in life and all the struggles it comes with, in this book. It was somewhat of a slow burn love, yet a shortish book, it held my attention from start to finished and I was intrigued to see where this relationship was headed, and of course Tara did not disappoint. She never does.Although this isn’t exactly my go-to read, and it’s not exactly the romance Tara usually writes, I did enjoy it! It still held a certain amount of heat, and a few twists and turns inserted into the plot, but all in all it’s a fairly lighthearted kind of read. it’s certainly a lovely change and both book 1 and 2 have made me look at this sub genre a little differently.It’s a 5 star rating from me.

Flawless from start to finish, with great dialog, and the perfect amount of sweet and tender moments. Tara Sue Me knows how to bring you romance that will melt your heart and set butterflies soaring. This was blissful.Tate and Carsen are a breath of fresh air. Their distinct personalities, and their attraction will win you over immediately. We definitely see a different side of Tate, then when we met him in “The Date Dare”. But after losing Darcy, his mind set has changed, no more strict rules that he has lived by for years. Carsen captures Tate’s attention immediately and when their paths cross again, he is a goner. But Carsen has big hopes and dreams, will she give it all up for Tate?This was such a treat. A romantic treat for the heart! I’m absolutely smitten with every little detail that makes up this story! I loved it!I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. I didn't know that weren't the same.Also, he made a lot of good points about taking care of redness and what you need to get started in investing. Overall, this we a good resource that someone can use to learn about investments.I thought Brown did a good job explaining the three categories of real estate you can invest in. I actually didn't know there were three categories. He made a lot of good points talking about how to choose the right one for your business endeavor.Another thing I liked about the book is the explanation of what you need to be an investor. He also touched on managing the tenants, which I know can be a difficult

My husband and I recently moved to a really popular tourist town and have been tossing the idea around of buying a property to rent out to vacationers a la AirBnB. There is an entire section on Foreclosures which I found particularly helpful because I've always heard foreclosure auctions and bank owned properties are a great way to get an awesome deal so there was a nice walkthrough for how to go about it. Some of the other topics include rentals, and commercial investing. This has given us a lot to think about, totally recommend.

I was curious about everything that it takes to buy and rent property. This book has truly helped open my eyes on if I can be someone's landlord or not. The law information in this book is put in a way that anyone can understand it and after reading it, I have had my eyes opened.

Really great read for a beginner. Straight forward and simple enough to understand. Will be my go to for the next several months and I embark on the investment adventure!! Highly recommended.

This book is one I have searched for a very long time. It goes into detail about what it actually feels like to forgive, what forgiveness is and equally importantly, what it is not. It's the first time I've seen laid out a course of action for achieving forgiveness and getting on with the rest of one's life. The book is simply written, the language is basic level--anyone who can read can understand it--and there are lots of examples throughout which help the reader understand the concepts presented. Dr. Tutu and his daugher Mpho have written an important book for the regular human being ... and made the too-frequently arcane and obscure topic of forgiveness crystal clear. A valuable book for anyone who has forgiveness issues.

This is probably the best book on forgiveness that I have read, and I have read many books on the subject. Most of the books that I've read just talk about all the reasons why you should forgive, and I am well aware of all the reasons why - I don't need another book telling me all the reasons - I've been looking for books that give the how do you go about this - how do you get there when you are so bitter and so angry. This is something that I struggle with more than any other issue - not only do I struggle with forgiving others, but I struggle with forgiving myself more than anything else - The struggle that I've had is why do I have to pay the price for what other people have done to me? why do I have to suffer so much - why do I have to experience so much pain. I see from this book that a person gets stuck in an endless loop that has no way out but forgiveness - that's the only path to freedom. I think that in our society nobody wants to hear about your pain and suffering. they want you to get past it already - it's like I'm never supposed to say anything so I stuff all my feelings. This book in many ways gives you permission to feel. That there is another way ..

As I struggle with my past, this book has opened my eyes that forgiveness is possible for me. I've never saw or thought about forgiving myself as part of my history. I so desperately want forgiveness from my daughter for being so mean to her while she was growing up. My anger became her anger, and now we rarely speak to one another. This book has many examples of people overcoming their demons and receiving forgiveness for themselves and from their victims. Truly and eye opener book to know I don't struggle along. I'll be re-reading this wonderful book. The Tutu's have a wonderful way to present the the 4-step forgiveness process. If you're in need of forgiveness or need to forgive someone - this is the place to start. I wish I had known of this book years ago and maybe my struggles wouldn't have consumed me for so long.

I ordered this book for my son after completing the Tutu Forgiveness Challenge on line. (Check out the intro video with his daughter. Delightful!) At first I found it almost simplistically silly. But as I continued to force myself to work the daily challenge, I begin to realize this simple little program was having a defined effect upon and within me. Archbishop Tutu in concert with his daughter, Reverend Mpho Tutu have compiled a successful program reflected within the pages of this little book: "a manual on the art of forgiveness—helping us to realize that we are all capable of healing and transformation."The book was born out of the trials of South Africa. Rather than altercations after suspension of apartheid, "this new nation chose to tread the difficult path of confession, forgiveness, and reconciliation." The book takes its reader through four steps of forgiveness toward healing: admitting and acknowledging any wrong or potential harm; telling one's story and witnessing the anguish; asking for and granting forgiveness; renewing or releasing the relationship. Their simplistic method allows the participant --- IF willing --- to look deeply within their psyche, acknowledging their feelings and emotions. At times when journaling what I was feeling, I allowed myself, without judgment, to feel the anger, sadness, joy or happiness I was experiencing. And this little exercise of putting it all down on paper, allowed a tremendous release from these old issues. By the end of the 30 day program, my mental, spiritual and physical health and well-being had undergone a true transformation. In The Book of Forgiving, Desmond Tutu and his daughter, Mpho Tutu are inviting us to join them on the path of forgiveness so that we can 'heal the world by healing each and every one of our hearts'. I was invited to share my story of forgiveness for this book, which is quite an honor, and when I received my copy upon its release, I was surprised at how much grief I hadn't yet processed as I read it. I have told my story many times, both in person and in writing. Telling the Story is the first step on this Fourfold Path of Forgiveness. Naming the Hurt is the second step on the path and this is where I had not completed the journey. I had no words to name my hurt over losing my husband and 13 year old daughter in a terrorist attack. I certainly felt it but it was so overwhelming that I plunged into the third step of Granting Forgiveness so that I could restore peace within myself. I discovered I could not truly Release the Relationship to this event and Renew my relationship with life without Naming the Hurt. Even now my eyes fill with tears as I write this. Healing the heart is a process of liberation that requires full acknowledgement of the emotional pain that splits the heart into pieces. I am so grateful to Desmond and Mpho Tutu for outlining the importance of this step and giving many examples from the stories of others who have suffered violent, unexpected losses of dear ones. By allowing ourselves to fully accept the reality by naming it, frees us from being bound by the shackles of that which cannot be changed. Forgiveness is then possible. By practicing this Fourfold Path on a regular basis we not only create inner peace, we give the gift of peace to everyone in our world.
